The new teccrab website

Posted on Updated on

teccrab_inc-BlogPostI am very happy to announce that we recently launched our new website and I would like to invite you to check it out. With the new design we also introduce some services we didn’t had online with the previous version. We went with the latest Joomla version, Joomla 3.0, to realize this project. The latest version of Joomla is great for those who would like to have a fantastic looking and functional website not just on a computer, but also on a tablet or smart phone. We checked our new website on an iPad and iPhone and were very pleased with the result.

Beside changing the website we as well redesigned our Logo a little bit. We will still have the crab as our symbol, but created now alos a text version, which you can find now on our Blog, Facebook Page, LinkedIn Page, Google Page as well as our website of course. For our social media platforms we added the icons of the services we offer and we think the new look is clean and fits our overall design.

Because we will celebrate in February 2013 our first anniversary we plan to have some special deals for new customers. We encourage therefore everyone to check out our Blog frequently to see what we will have for you. We already started the new year with one of our new packages, called the Google AdWords KeyWord-Broker Start. This package is especially for small business owner designed and in our opinion a great and very risk free way to check us out and start using our services.

Beside the Google AdWords KeyWord-Broker Starter Package we plan to offer IT Training. This is based on a few conversation we had during the holidays were we talked with various people about the IT Training landscape in general. Most people were not pleased with the available IT Training options, told me about their experience were the training was either very expensive or not practical. I had my share with so called IT Training Provider as well. I had the experience that classrooms were often way to big or that the teacher couldn’t reach the student because they were “hiding” behind a screen.

Our classes will be 10 students max and our first training will be very basic, but hopefully useful, practical, a little bit entertaining and not very expensive.

We are very excited to see how well this new service will perform and can not wait to welcome the first class.

I hope this short update made you interested in our services and please visit our website http://teccrab.com to see what we have to offer. Don’t forget to leave a comment to let us know how you like the new site.

Cheers for now 🙂

MarioFit Fighting for Kids

Posted on Updated on

There is exactly one month left to “MarioFit Fighting for Kids in Need” event. I can’t tell you how excited I am for this event. This is crunch time at teccrab! As a major sponsor, we have been doing all the online marketing to make this event as successful as possible. This includes developing the event website, which if I may say so, is looking pretty awesome.

If you haven’t heard, teccrab is currently working on this project to promote Mario Schiopu’s fight at the 2012 BC Karate Championship Tournament. Simon was at the Zone 5 Qualification round this past Sunday to cheer on Mario for officially qualifying to the main event on November 17th and 18th. A huge congratulation to Mario and we are very proud of him!

Mario is a former Romanian Karate Champion and is a certified 3 Dan Black Belt instructor by the World Karate Federation (WKF). After turning 50 years old, he wants to prove that with his knowledge in fitness and living healthy, he is more than competent to compete and win against much younger athletes. We have just launched the blog where Mario will be updating his training and progress daily!

Mario has a big heart and I can tell especially after meeting his family and his two gorgeous little girls. He wants to use this attention he has gained from all his sponsors and supporters for a good cause: helping children in need. Mario has picked two charities very dear to his heart: Children’s Hunger Fund and BC Children’s Hospital.

Living in Vancouver, it is easy to ignore all the people in the world that don’t have as much as we do. We really hope that this event will be able to provide awareness and much needed resources to children who are desperately in need of food or medical treatment.

We really hope that you will support this great cause by checking out our event’s website, Mario’s blog and giving us a “like” on our facebook page.

As for you faithful teccrab blog readers, here is a little sneak peak for what’s to come. We filmed a questions and answer video with Mario yesterday which took about two hours to do, but will be edited down to about 10 minutes. Stay tune as it will be ready in a short couple of days!

Cheers,

Queenie

Queenie Says Hey!

Posted on Updated on

Hello everyone!

This post will be a little different from the usual tech-orientated ones below, and you may ask: how so? Well, perhaps to your surprise, this is not Simon! In fact, my name is Queenie and I am the new public relations coordinator on the teccrab team. This post is a little introduction to what my role will be here and some insight as to who I am!

I thought it would be appropriate to start off with an explanation of my name.  Recently, whenever I’ve introduced myself to someone, they tend to inquire about how different my name is. I suppose this is great for conversation starters so I decided to Google if there is any meaning to it. According to Wikipedia, Queenie is, and I quote, “an affectionate, or pet use, of the term queen – and is thought to be derived from the Old English word ‘cwen’, meaning ‘woman’ rather than a reference to the monarch or his wife.” To my delight due to my love for anything-British, this name was apparently very popular in the Victorian Era in the British Empire.

In August, I graduated from university with a Communications degree and am trying out this ‘working in the real world’ thing. I met Simon after landing an internship with one of teccrab’s clients, INTERNeX! Knowing my interest in social media, Simon told me about teccrab and asked me if I would be interested in working with him. After listening to his excitement and passion for the company and what he does – website development, internet marketing, and public relations – of course, I agreed.

Now, here I am, introducing myself to you! As the public relations coordinator, I will mainly be involved in the social media aspect of teccrab and for the event “MarioFit Fighting for Kids” as we are one of the sponsors. The journey to Mario’s success as a karate champion and fitness and nutrition expert has not come without difficulties. By competing at the 2012 BC Karate Provincial Championship, he wants to help children in need by supporting two charities, BC Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hunger Fund, for causes very close to his heart.

I truly believe that Mario has an amazing story which is why I am really excited to be working with him, along with Simon, in spreading the word for this upcoming event! In the next couple of months, you will be hearing from me regularly, and hopefully you won’t get too sick of me! I will be writing not only more in-depth on the event, but also on things like the newest technology craze or computer games. Yes, growing up in a family full of boys has definitely skewed my interest towards playing Footmen on WoW rather than watching Vampire Diaries.

Don’t be afraid to leave me a comment, tweet or Facebook message, as I really want to hear from you!

Cheers,

Queenie

Mac OS X Mountain Lion is now available

Posted on

If you are a Mac user you probably heard already that there is a new Cat in town. Since today you can download the new OS, which is called Mountain Lion, right from the Apple App Store. But is that an update you will need? Is it save to update now or should you wait? I will try to answer some of your questions here in this post.

Let me start with the price. I was already impressed when Apple announce last year the new OS Lion for just $29.99 and thought this is quite cheap for an OS. This year Apple dropped the price even further and therefore you can get the new cat for only $19,99 which is really cheap, if you think about the extra features you will get.

Twitter is fully integrated into Mountain Lion, the Reminder function, many of us like on the iPhone, is now an extra application. A notification centre is integrated as well as iMessage (which I use since the BETA and love very much). You have now a nice extra Note App like you have on your iDevice (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) and even Game Centre is now on your Mac. So basically Mountain Lion is building finally the bridge to your iDevices, something we kinda hoped for with Lion, right?

I could start explaining how every single of those function works, but first of all there are already tons of reviews out there and second I think most of us know how to use them. So I would like to mention one concern I had when I started the download, which is Games.

I had my bad experiences in the past, when I upgraded my OS to soon. Had problems to run certain programs, because the game developer were maybe not paying enough attention or didn’t care for those of us who not only work with their Mac, but also enjoy to play with it. Maybe it was because a few years ago the Mac wasn’t really a computer you use to play with. But in the last two years this has changed in my opinion. Many games became available on the Mac and I liked especially Blizzards effort in securing that their programs (Star Craft II and Diablo III) were shipped for Windows as well as Mac OS at the same time.

So now the question for those who like to play games on their Mac… Is it save to upgrade or should you wait?

Well I upgraded to Mountain Lion this morning and tested a few games already. So far I wasn’t running in any problem, was able to open Diablo III, used my Steam account and the games I had there such as the Witcher, Dungeon Defenders and Splinter Cell (to name a few). All of them were running just fine, I even had the feeling the games loaded slightly faster than before.

Of course I had not the chance to try out every single game, but had the chance to run a few and tried to pick them based on their age difference. So far no problems, which is good news, if you ask me.

Beside the games I tried also the new features and think that Mountain Lion is a very stable and great upgrade which isn’t that expensive. Spending $19.99 on a new OS, which by the way has also a lot of security features I didn’t mention yet, is in my opinion a no question. Of course for those who are skeptical it doesn’t hurt to wait a few weeks and to read more reviews, but for those who want to get their hands on Mountain Lion I would say go for it. Just make sure you read the instructions first, not all Mac’s are able to handle the new cat. Also a good idea is to make a backup before you start the installation process. I did not loose any documents and had no problem at all with the installation, but it is always better to be save than sorry.

I hope this short review was useful for you and if you have any comments please feel free to post them.

teccrab first website -BETA-

Posted on Updated on

The first version of the teccrab website is now finally online. The site is still in a BETA phase, but the main content, even if they still have to be reviewed again, is online. There is still much to do, but the BETA does look great already. Well at least that is what we think 🙂

If you check out our site you will see that we tried to have the Top of our website similar to the Top of our Blog. The first page has at the moment 3 images, which are rotating. Each image represents one of our core services. Below the rotating images we have a little welcome text followed by the copyright, address and links to our Disclaimer, Contact Us and About Us pages.

By clicking on “Services” you will find the core services teccrab is offering. We have Website Developing, Internet Marketing and Public Relations as the main products and split that later into sub services such as SEO, Banner and Button Design, Blog posting and Online Reputation Management, to  name just a few.

Please find here the images you will as well find on our website. You will see that each service has it’s own little icon, we think this is a nice extra touch.

Please visit our website at teccrab.com and leave a comment below how you like our first website.

Thanks 🙂

Preparation of a new website

Posted on

It is always a great moment to start a new project. But working on your own project is in my experience often even harder than working on a project of a client. Maybe it is because your client gives you some structure and will pressure you to finish a project in a certain time, but if you create your own website you don’t really have anybody pushing you to finish it other than yourself. I also often noticed that you can find yourself in the position to come up with many great ideas how to present yourself and don’t realize that you loose yourself in small details.

I am building websites since 1997 and created sites for insurance companies, travel agencies, restaurants, educational services, non profit organization, scientists, energy consultant, magazines, TV channel, events, movies, construction companies and many more. I had the great opportunity to meet many fantastic people over the years and to build for and with them amazing websites, but working on my own site was always the biggest challenge for me.

Today I cleaned up my server and deleted all the sandbox sites I created over the last couple years. I used those sites to test new systems, modules and extensions. I got rid of old MySQL DB which I wasn’t using anymore. Uploaded the latest version of Joomla and redirected my domains to new destinations. I have a concept in mind, a good product to sell and look forward to work on my own new website to present my services.

Something that is different from when I started is that I am much better organized. I get less distracted and am more focused. This Blog will hopefully encourage you, some new web designer, to do the same and start working on your own project. See yourself as a client and do what you would do if you were one. It will take time and you may need to step back a moment to finish the project that actually will pay the bills, but you will see at the end it will pay off if you tread yourself as if you were your own client.

Starting a new project is always exciting and I am looking forward to work on the new teccrab website.
